HAILING from a family with four generations of musicians, it was perhaps inevitable that Sam Sparro would enter the music business.
“Music has always been part of my life,” says the Sydney-born singer/songwriter, whose single ‘Black and Gold’ propelled him to fame in 2008. “I love it; it can instantly change your mood and give you the feeling that someone else has experienced what you’re going through.” With his second album, Return to Paradise (Virgin/EMI Music), due for release on June 1, the 29-year-old is living the dream. “The best thing is getting to make a living out of what I love.”

Sam can’t live without…
SUNGLASSES
They’re my weakness. I have about 20 pairs, although I’ll often pass old ones on to my friends or give them to charity.
MY DOGS
George Michael and Charlie Rose (named after the veteran US journalist) give me love and companionship. I miss them when I’m travelling.
COFFEE
The first thing I do in the morning is let my dogs out for a wee and then turn on the coffee machine - I never have instant.
EXERCISE
I’ve started taking it seriously in the past few years. It’s been good for my mental health, as well as my physical health.
LEATHER BAG
I take this Phillip Lim backpack everywhere I go. I love the colour and that it’s low-maintenance.
CHAIR
I’m into interiors and enjoy checking out vintage furniture shops. This Danish seat (left) was a bargain.
BROGUES
Fashion is a problem for me; I’m addicted. I’ve learnt to appreciate grown-up clothes - tailored suits, nice shoes. I’m going through a ’40s phase.
VINYL RECORDS
I grew up listening to cassettes, CDs and then an iPod, but I recently became a nerdy record collector. It’s a tactile experience; I like the smell of them and the dust.
Video is not available in my country… So, could someone stream it and put it on YouTube or somewhere :)?
